Temperament of dog Another important factor in choosing the right system is the temperament of your dog. If your dog is mild mannered or timid (what I call The Home Body) then you may be able to get by with low levels of correction. If you have an energetic or curious dog (I call him The Explorer) then you will likely need higher levels of correction to overcome these traits. The Protector (larger, more aggressive breeds) might need even higher levels of correction. Underground dog fences have anywhere from 1 level of correction up to 8 user settable levels of correction. If you have a stubborn dog (I decline to name these guys) you will want to consider a system designed for stubborn dogs with the highest levels of correction.
LOCATING YOUR FENCE- If you are placing your fence around your garden or pool, chances are you will not encounter a conflict with property lines. However, if you are installing a property line fence, MAKE SURE you know where the property lines really are located. Bushes, tree lines or stone walls are NOT a good and reliable indicator of property lines. You may have been mowing a section of lawn for years but that doesnt make it your property. You may have just been being nice to your neighbor all those years. I have heard over and over how someone is sure that is where their line absolutely is only to find out after they install the fence that their neighbor sues them and has it removed. Survey maps will show the shape of the property and location of adjacent streets. Most will show accurate locations of corner pins. Property corners (usually a steel pipe or concrete monument) can be located from your site plan or survey map DO NOT GUESS where your property lines are located. Have the lot surveyed and legal corners markers set. This way your investment in your fence will not be wasted. Fencing is usually a multiple weekend project but with a little care you can have a beautiful finished project and save a great deal of money on labor.
Wood Fence If you have a very limited budget, dont care how your fence looks and dont mind replacing it down the road, which is a pretty short road, go ahead and purchase the wood fence. However, dont forget about the detours in your journey of sanding, painting and staining with the choice of a wood fence.
Cleaning: A few reasons why you would need to clean your vinyl fence would be: dirt and/or grass from the ground accumulating on the fence due to cutting the grass, leaves or other debris after a storm and rarely; you will notice a type of chalk build up develop on parts of the vinyl fence. These reasons are not major and are easily cleaned as explained below. The majority of vinyl fences can be cleaned very easily by just spraying the fence down with a water hose; however, if there are some tough stains that a water hose does not take care of, just follow the method below and your fence will look brand new every time you clean it! To prepare for cleaning a vinyl fence, you will want to decide if you are going to use a bucket of soapy water or a vinyl cleaning solution (can be purchased at your local hardware store) or a combination of both. If you are using a bucket of soapy water, you will want to fill the bucket with water to your desired amount and mix an environmentally safe cleaning solution in the bucket. (TIP: If it is environmentally safe,... It is vinyl fence safe) After you have your bucket of soapy water, all you must do now is get your soft cloth rag wet via the water in the bucket and wipe down the areas of the fence that need wiped down. If you are using a spray bottle of vinyl cleaning solution, just spray the areas of the fence that need cleaned and wipe with a dry soft cloth rag. When you are finished cleaning an area of the fence, rinse it off with a water hose and allow it to air dry.
