Is a Fence a Fence? If you are contemplating the purchase of a fence you might ask: What kind of fence should I buy? Before you can answer that I suppose there are a few other questions to ask first. For example one might ask, what is the purpose of this fence, why do I want to install it? There are many reasons for a fence: security, privacy, safety, aesthetic value, keep your dog in or the neighbors dog out, to hide your neighbors junk, or your junk from your neighbors, and the list goes on. Whatever your reasons are for purchasing a fence, here are a few observations to help you distinguish the differences of a few available fence types.
Changing a Wood Fence Picket: Changing a Fence Picket is almost self explanatory. In the Dallas Texas metro the choices of fence pickets are starting with the best then to the last are Cedar (3-4 different grades), Composite ( recycled materials like Trex, Correct Deck ), Pressure Treated Yellow Pine and Spruce - Fir - and White Pine ( These are all in the white wood category). The white woods typically have a longevity of 7 - 10 years unless a good weather sealant is applied. Once again make sure that your screws or nails are of the proper length and either hot dipped galvanized or aluminum. You can attach a fence board to the top of the pickets or a nylon string to use to keep the top straight as you fasten them to the rails.
Yard size The size of your yard will influence your choice in Underground Dog Fence systems. Each system has a maximum size it can support from the DogTek Underground Dog Fence which supports up to 2 1/2 acres to the SportDog Underground Dog Fence which can enclose up to 100 acres.
Temperament of dog Another important factor in choosing the right system is the temperament of your dog. If your dog is mild mannered or timid (what I call The Home Body) then you may be able to get by with low levels of correction. If you have an energetic or curious dog (I call him The Explorer) then you will likely need higher levels of correction to overcome these traits. The Protector (larger, more aggressive breeds) might need even higher levels of correction. Underground dog fences have anywhere from 1 level of correction up to 8 user settable levels of correction. If you have a stubborn dog (I decline to name these guys) you will want to consider a system designed for stubborn dogs with the highest levels of correction.
